October 25, 1971
Cary Area Rescue Squad incorporated

August 18, 1972
First call, 38-year-old male bleeding severely from wrist.
December 1974
Squad moves into the building on Medcon Court.
Fall of 1980
Squad begins paying some ambulance staff
September 14, 1987
Cary EMS starts paramedic service
June 1992
Squad hires first full-time, paid chief
May 22, 1995
Board approves the creation of the Bicycle Emergency Response Team
September 1997
Cary Area EMS permanently places an ambulance in Morrisville
1993
Bike Team implemented, first in Wake County
June 30, 1997
Cary Area Rescue Squad becomes Cary Area Emergency Medical Services

January 1999
Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services certificate issues; first volunteer EMS agency in the nation to obtain CAAS certification
January 2002
Paramedic-level truck placed in service; 24 hours a day as first rescue squad in Wake County to do so; CAAS re-accreditation issued
May 24, 2004
Cary EMS is the first agency in Wake County to go above $1 million in billing income as volunteer status
October 28, 2004
First Citizens Academy ends
November 2005
First flu clinic; 594 people vaccinated at first Flu Clinic
